  Isomaltooligosaccharide (IMO) is enzymatically processed from starch as a mixture of α-(1→6) linked glucosides, such as isolmaltose, isolmatotriose, panose, and isomaltotetraose. There is a major concern on classifying IMOs as prebiotics because of their digestibility in the gastrointestinal tract and only Isomaltooligosaccharide (IMO) with high degrees of polymerization, for instance, isomaltotetraose and larger oligomers, are considered indigestible. Nevertheless, they have been demonstrated to have bifidogenic properties in the human gut.
