IMO isomalto-oligosaccharides soluble corn fiber


   IMO isomalto-oligosaccharides  are a mixture of short-chain carbohydrates containing glucose residues bounded at 40%–95% by α-(1,6) glycosidic bonds. Since α-(1,6) linkages are not easily hydrolyzed in the human gastrointestinal tract, and only part of the IMO isomalto-oligosaccharides is digested, it is considered to be a prebiotic substance.IMO isomalto-oligosaccharides with DP ranging from 2 to 6 can be produced from corn starch by serial reactions of starch with α-amylase, β-amylase, and transglucosidase from Aspergillus niger.


  Some studies showed that IMO isomalto-oligosaccharides prevent tooth decay when used together with sucrose. Other studies show that IMOs selectively promote the growth of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus.
